Position Overview:
The Lead Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, developmentally appropriate learning and experiences that are aligned with the center’s philosophy. The lead teacher navigates children through a daily schedule and prepares & implements lesson plans by utilizing the center’s curriculum. The teacher maintains classroom tidiness and may need to give directions to support staff.
Key Responsibilities:
• Teach and follow a daily routine while fostering a safe and engaging learning environment.
• Adapts to suit individual physical, social, and developmental needs of the children.
• Responsible to keep accurate head counts throughout the day.
• Responsible for providing meals, snacks and allergy prevention.
• Respond appropriately to medical emergencies of children.
• Support children’s social-emotional development by modeling kindness, forgiveness, compassion and joy.
• Regularly communicates with each child’s parents through the ProCare App and in person as helpful.
• Coordinate and implement semi-annual parent-teacher conferences, which may require overtime.
• Initiates and participates in behavioral meetings with parents as needed.
• Maintains an organized and clean classroom.
• Meets with the head of the department and management as requested.
• Adheres to the guidelines of all state licensing guidelines and center policy and procedures.
• Participate in school programs, and in-service training.
• Function as mandated reporter.
Leadership Responsibilities:
• Complete required training hours as mandated by state licensing.
• Responsible for quality checking the work of aides and assistants in your classroom.
• Supervision of staff in the classroom is a teacher’s responsibility.
• Maintains required classroom supply counts.
Qualifications:
• Must meet one of the qualification criteria per DCYF to be lead teacher qualified. See 9503.0032 – MN Rules Part.
• Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
• Ability to exercise patience when interacting with children while maintaining a caring and approachable nature.
• Regular attendance and punctuality are required to ensure smooth operations.
• Dependability – Follows instructions, responds to management direction.
• Written Communication – Writes clearly and professionally.
