Job description:
Job Purpose: Provide a healthy, safe, fun and developmentally appropriate program and environment where children have the opportunity to develop social-emotional, language, intellectual, and physical skills. The Teacher will assist the Lead Teacher in the classroom and serve as a leader in his/her absence. The Teacher will serve as a model to other co-workers and model positive behaviors for children. Open lines of communication between CPC and families are crucial, while maintaining the confidentiality of all involved. Organizational Summary
Essential Duties:
Ensure a safe and healthy environment at all times by monitoring child areas for hazards or sanitation problems and correcting problems immediately or removing children from hazard until it can be corrected.
Ensure sight and sound adult staff supervision for all children at all times
Provide a stimulating, engaging, cognitively challenging and developmentally appropriate environment that encourage exploration and experimentation for children of verily ability levels.
Provide experiences and training to help children develop and practice good health and safety habits.
Assist in following a daily schedule that incorporates the best early childhood practices with a balance of teacher and/or child(ren) initiated activities. All activities must be able to be tailored to each child’s individual need.
Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and executing appropriate learning experiences indoors and outside in accordance with the centers monthly themes and curriculum
Develop a cooperative working relationship with families by frequent communication at arrival and departure
Maintain accurate and timely records of daily routines, accidents, incidents, illnesses, medication, attendance, observations, assessments, fire and storm drill, number counts, and family conferences on the proper forms.
Meet all regulatory requirements including annual training, meetings, etc.
Cooperate with other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of the center.
Communicate any concerns regarding staff, currently enrolled families, family complaints, etc., to the assistant director or director immediately.
Maintain confidentiality of center policies, procedures, documents, etc., and any currently enrolled, inquiring or previously enrolled family.
Ensure compliance with the Department of Human Services, Minnesota Rule 3 at all times.
Other Duties and Tasks:
Assist in maintaining center appearance in the interior and exterior that adhere to CPC’s and MN Rule 3’s standards and requirements.
Maintain common supply areas in a neat orderly fashion, notifying the director of any materials that need to be ordered and reordered.
Interact with colleagues, families and center visitors in a pleasant, professional manner.
Participate in at least 1 community event outside of CPC annually
Physical Requirements:
Be able to lift thirty pounds.
Be able to bend, stoop, or kneel to achieve children’s eye-level.
Be able to sit on the floor and/or child-sized chairs.
Be able to spend at least one hour at a time outdoors throughout the year.
Be able to write notes, newsletter articles and have communication using standard English.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Strong written and verbal communication skills that allow you to maintain effective communication with the assistant director and director, staff, families, children, and community groups.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· An understanding of and ability to communicate with children with various skill levels.
· Ability to be part of a team.
· Ability to adapt to multiple situations and respond quickly and safely.
· Ability to work outside of normal work hours to complete additional trainings, certifications, meetings, classroom planning, etc. as needed.
· Must be able to pass a background study.
· Must be able to become CPR and First Aid Certified within 90 days of hire.
