Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates for the position of Teacher must possess the following minimum qualifications in order to be considered for the position:
Be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the field of early childhood education and development.
Be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults.
Have prior experience working with young children in a formal setting.
Have training in early childhood education, and/or the commitment to obtain training as mandated by the state.
Be current in First Aid and Infant/Child CPR certification or the commitment to obtain such.
Be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the church and childcare’s educational and spiritual philosophy.
Have the ability to perform physical duties of the job without limitations.
Be at least 18 years old.
Obtain state mandated criminal background check.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to the following:
Supervise the care and education of a group of children as assigned, providing constant supervision and maintaining appropriate child to adult ratios at all times.
Prepare the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
Ensure general housekeeping tasks are done.
Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities.
Maintain all operational requirements for a safe and healthy licensed child care center, with a developmentally appropriate Christian program.
Maintain up-to-date records as required by the state and federal government, such as attendance, sign-in forms, and milk count.
Care for the classroom environment, maintaining a safe, clean and healthy place for the children.
Maintain a safe and healthy playground and gym by respecting the environment and participating in clean-up operations.
Greet parents cheerfully and politely at all times, maintaining a pleasant and helpful demeanor as they drop off and pick up children. Recognize the importance of the relationship between childcare providers and parents, and offer support as needed.
Supervise and implement the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the childcare center.
Be aware of the needs of individual children, their interests, special talents, special needs, and individual style and pace of learning. The children’s cultural and socioeconomic background.
Help children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.
Make sure the room is cleaned up after each class and at the end of the night.
Supervise the classroom aide and volunteer staff, and in ensuring the smooth coordination of all classroom activities and staff and student interrelationships.
Follow ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of the children.
Plan and implement methods of establishing positive relationships with parents, volunteers, and other staff members.
Maintain professional attitudes and loyalty to the church and childcare at all times. Keeping all student, staff, and family information confidential.
Treat all children with dignity and respect, as unique individuals created by God.
Attend all required training programs, conferences, and staff meetings.
Participate in public-relation events sponsored by Eastern Heights Evangelical Lutheran Church and by Open Arms Lutheran Child Development Center.
