JOB STATUS: Full time (40 hours/week), 12 months per year, Non-Union position
LOCATION: Jackson, MN
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Youth Development Coordinator is responsible for administering and delivering programs for young adults in UCAP’s service area. The Youth Development Coordinator is responsible for using existing program curricula and for updating and developing new curricula as necessary. The coordinator is responsible for taking notes and maintaining records to track program progress and accomplishments and ensure timelines and deliverables are being met. The Youth Coordinator should have a broad knowledge of current food justice, social justice, health and nutrition issues, specifically as they relate to youth and the communities within the UCAP services areas. The Youth Development Coordinator works collaboratively with staff and community partners to carry out the program.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
• Youth and Family Program participation: Recruit, screen, and provide ongoing services for enrolled youth, their families, and volunteers.
• Complete and maintain accurate records: Set up, organize, and maintain individual participant files, keeping them updated with new forms and entering information into the agency database.
• Plan and provide group activities for youth: Research, develop, plan, and promote both small and large group activities, including ensuring the safety of participants.
• Establish and maintain effective referral network and community linkage: Schedule and attend meetings to build program awareness and seek support from groups/organizations/businesses.
• Outreach: Staff booths at events and provide information about the Youth Development program at area events and on social media pages.
• Attend conferences, training, and meetings as needed or requested: Attend agency sponsored orientation, training, staff/program meetings, and workshops/conferences as requested.
- Support and Model UCAP’s Behavioral Competencies.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Minimum one (1) to three (3) years combined education and experience in human service-related field. Experience in working with youth, recruiting and coordinating volunteers, and fundraising preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team and ability to develop and implement program goals and policies with Youth Development Team.
- Knowledge and understanding of child development.
- Knowledge about community resources available to families and youth, and ability to network those resources to fulfill the needs of the program.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to lead small group conversations and knowledge of basic computer programs, etc.
- Ability to coordinate special projects and monitor safety of youth in small and large groups at program-sponsored events as well as actively participate in children’s activities.
- Means of transportation to travel as required by the position, including travel to other office locations as needed and ability to maintain a flexible schedule in order to respond to program and participant needs including some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
