RESPONSIBILITIES: The Community Workshops Instructor will plan, coordinate and provide community workshops to students from pre-literacy to advanced. The Community Workshops Instructor’s role also includes collaboration on curriculum development for in-person and online workshops, student data entry, and an active role in overall program planning. Workshops are geared towards new Americans in accordance with Refugee Program Office (RPO) topics (housing, education, transportation, health care, finances, citizenship, and more) and program requirements. Workshops focus on skills and the English language necessary to navigate everyday life in Minnesota.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Design, adapt, and coordinate community-focused curricula and workshops to meet diverse needs while ensuring alignment with program objectives and requirements.
Facilitate, promote, and coordinate diverse workshops, building community partnerships and addressing access barriers to ensure effective and inclusive programming.
Manage program databases and records to track student participation, demographic data, expenses, and program metrics while ensuring accuracy and budget compliance.
Analyze and compile program data to evaluate effectiveness, recommend improvements, and support report writing for targeted population outcomes.
Engage in agency orientations, trainings, meetings, and professional development to enhance skills and program knowledge.
Support and Model UCAP’s Behavioral Competencies.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Post-secondary education in English as a Second Language, Education, Social Services or a related field and/or experience with classroom/workshop instruction preferred. Minimum of 1-2 years related experience, which may include social services, working with diverse populations, public speaking, providing training, or outreach.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to be self-directed.
Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
Skilled in prioritizing work responsibilities.
Flexibility in work schedule to include some evenings and weekends.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Possess a reliable, insured vehicle for travel.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proficiency in speaking in front of groups.
Ability to be self-directed and complete work on time.
Priority given to candidates with the following experience: interpretive skills of a second language and experience with diverse communities, recent immigrants and/or English-language learners.
