Our Prekindergarten Room (4s-5s) is seeking an empathetic, patient individual, with strong communication skills, to work with a preschooler who has been placed on the Autism spectrum. This position will work one-on-one with the child in the Prekindergarten classroom, supporting the child to follow classroom routines, interact with peers appropriately, and learn self-help skills. The person needs to be calm and loving, while also being firm and direct. The hours are generally 12-5:30 pm Monday through Friday, when the child is present.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the Christian Faith to support the Christian teachings of the school and be willing to continue learning upon hire. This individual will also exhibit their faith in how they live their life to set a Christian example for the children and families.The individual in this role will have the desire and ability to build relationships with children and families
Resurrection Lutheran Preschool not only prepares children for a life of learning, we also facilitate the building blocks to life long service in Christ. The program includes daily Bible learning, is centered on learning through play, hands-on experiences, and open-ended activities to facilitate the best growth and development for the preschool age. Along with providing love and care for children and facilitating typical developmental aspects of a preschool environment, the individual chosen for this position will have opportunities to support this child in learning of Jesus’ love and helping to build their faith.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for working with the child the entire shift each day.
- Have open communication with the Lead Teacher, Director, and all other staff.
- Use teaching/learning strategies known prior or learned at RLP to play with, guide, and instruct, and build a relationship with the child and others in the room.
- Respond promptly to the physical and emotional needs of the child and assist with behavior management
- Demonstrate and teach proper respect for individuals and proper care of equipment and materials.
- Utilize opportunities for professional growth such as attendance at workshops, conferences, or classes (online or in person) related to Autism Spectrum Disorder and other topics as they relate to the child.
- Participate in staff meetings and meetings with the Director and Lead Teacher.
- Attend family engagement events as management requests.
- Be an advocate for Resurrection Lutheran Preschool in the community.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 or older
- Pass a Minnesota Background Study
- Meet Department of Human Services (Rule 3) requirements for Assistant Teacher.
- A good understanding of child development
- Experience with groups of preschool children is required.
- Ability to effectively manage student behaviors
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
