Temple Israel Early Childhood Center is a NAEYC accredited, Reggio-inspired, diverse Jewish preschool where children and families build Jewish identity, culture, and values.
· DHS Head Teacher qualifications (see here https://www.revisor.mn.gov/rules/9503.0032/)
· A plus but not required
· Knowledge of Judaism, Anti-Bias Education, Reggio Emilia, Teaching Strategies Gold and/or NAEYC accreditation standards are a plus.
· Move throughout the school to support learners and colleagues as needed
· Sometimes provide one-on-one support to learners, as needed
· Flexible and enthusiastic at working with toddlers, preschoolers, and pre-kindergarteners.
Responsibilities and Duties
· A typical day for a support teacher might involve starting off in one classroom to welcome learners as they enter the school day, then shifting to other classrooms when additional support is needed
· Covering breaks for classroom teachers
· Learning the rituals and routines of each classroom community
· Following directions and lead of classroom teachers
· Hands-on things that this support teacher might encounter:
o Helping with meals (serving milk/water, opening containers, facilitating conversation between learners as they eat)
o Helping with transitions, going to and from classroom
o Changing diapers
o Helping with art explorations or other classroom endeavors that need more grown-up support
o Being a go-to person for learners who need more one-on-one time
This position can be a pathway to becoming a head teacher in a classroom in future school years. It is a great place to start because we will mentor and support early career teachers, as well as a wonderful position for experienced teachers who want a change of pace and fresh start in a new environment.
Typical support teacher schedule would be:
8:00 – 1:45 M-F = 28.75 hours a week at school
Plus 2 hours/weekly for paid PD and staff meeting = 30.75 hours a week, which is full time and qualifies for benefits.
Aftercare hours could be added for those who wanted more weekly hours.
Hours could be reduced below 30 for those who would like part time work.
Starting pay is $16-$19 an hour depending upon education and experience.
Support teachers are paid 2 hours per week, in addition to classroom hours, for staff meeting and professional development.
30.75 hours a week school year would start at $20,664 – $24,539 per year.
30.75 hours a week 12 month would start at $25,584 – $30,381 per year.
40 hours a week 12 months would start at $33,280 – $39,520 per year.

Ritual objects become familiar to the children as do Hebrew words and songs and Jewish stories.
